Richard Porter
Product Manager, IBM
Richard had the privilege of leading Marines for eight years providing a product called security. Later, he worked in Product Management in a more traditional sense, leading multi-million dollar products at IBM. He is driven by a personal mission to learn and teach so that others can survive and thrive
through understanding knowledge. As a user-focused Product Manager at IBM, Richard brings over 10 years of experience in leadership, communication, and analysis to bear in service of mission, team, and users. He is passionate about purpose, people, context and culture so he is often thinking frequently about leadership, mission, team, incentives, and his customers. He has been fortunate to lead teams to accomplish missions across a range of product building and combat operations. These teams have saved lives, inspired heroism, cut thousands in costs, earned millions in revenue and have been recognized with multiple awards for their excellence. His areas of expertise include strategic thinking, creative problem solution, engaging mentorship, and empathy for others’ needs. He holds an MBA in Management Consulting and Operations from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and prior to that, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder. In his future, Richard strives to bring high hustle and low ego to his goals and teams. He believes in setting the example, accomplishing worthy missions and taking care of our people.
