Joao is a Senior Product Manager currently working at Netflix, building the Animation Studio Technology team from the beginning. His goal is to combine art and technology to develop the most successful and creative studio in the world. Before this, he worked as Product Manager for Google Research on Kernel. Kernel is a Google AI program that applies cutting-edge research to create world-positive products and businesses that transform how people live, work, and play. Previously, he was a Product Manager in YouTube's Music team, responsible for fostering a productive, creative and rewarding relationship between Google, the music industry, and artists. Joao's focus was on Artist Growth: helping establish YouTube as the best place for artists to connect with their fans and build their audience. Before joining the music team, he was a Data Scientist in YouTube's Strategy (BizOps) team responsible for providing business-critical insights using analytics, ensuring cross-functional alignment of goals and execution, and helping teams drive strategic partnerships and new initiatives forward. Prior to this, Joao was an Anti-Abuse Analyst in Google's Trust and Safety team. He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, where he got an MSc in Social Science of the Internet. Awarded by the Oxford Internet Institute, the degree equipped me with an in-depth knowledge of Internet communications policy and regulation, social science methods, and digital humanities. Joao concentrated on the application of quantitative methods such as statistical analysis and network analysis to study emergent social phenomena. He's entrepreneurial and motivated, and with an extremely diverse international background, Joao is an ideal cross-cultural leader and communicator.
