Group Product Manager

A Group Product Manager is responsible for Product strategy and Product vision for a single product or area of products. They build processes for their product area and manage a team of Product Managers throughout the Product life cycle. Group Product Managers report to the Head of Product/Chief Product Officer.

They are relied upon to develop strong relationships with prospects and vendors, collaborate with internal teams on competitive positioning and market development, create Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and related briefs, take Product enhancements or new product launches from start to finish, and mentor junior members of the Product team to reach goals and achieve deliverables.

To be considered for this role, the ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a Product role, 2-5 years of experience leading Product teams, inspiring and effective leadership skills, and experience mentoring and coaching Product Managers. Note: Group Product Managers can be both individual contributors and people managers depending on the organization but they are typically on the management track. Senior Product Managers who want to take on more seniority without becoming managers will likely become Principal Product Managers.

Group Product Manager Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Head of Product/Chief Product Officer.

  • Responsible for Product strategy and Product vision for a single Product or area of Products or owned Products.

  • Build processes for their Product area and the Product Managers that they manage.

  • Developing strong relationships with prospects and vendors.

  • Collaborate with internal teams on competitive positioning and market development.

  • Conducting user surveys and focus groups.

  • Creating Product Requirement Documents, Market Requirement Documents, and Business Requirement Documents.

  • Take Product enhancements or new Product launches from start to finish.

  • Mentor junior members of the Product team.

  • Motivate and coach the Product team to reach goals and achieve deliverables.

Group Product Manager Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Product role.

  • 2-5 years of experience leading Product teams.

  • Ability to manage Product teams.

  • Inspiring and effective leadership skills.

  • Experience mentoring and coaching Product Managers.
