There has never been a better time in history to build digital products.
From Susan Wojcicki at YouTube and Satya Nadella at Microsoft to Elon Musk at Tesla, Product Managers have taken the helm at the world’s most exciting and innovative companies.
Their influence is felt across all industries, as Product-Led Growth becomes the main revenue generating engine at more and more businesses.
The age of the Product Manager is here! And as Spiderman’s uncle wisely said, with great power comes great responsibility.
Now that the influence of the PM is growing at a dizzying pace within Tech and beyond, many top Product Leaders have decided that the time has come to define the values and principles that underpin what we do: Values of diversity and inclusion. Of building products that make a positive impact on all communities. Of creating a better world, for everyone.
And the thing about great Product Managers is… they don’t just talk about things, they make things happen!
Product School is proud to be facilitating a major new initiative that, we believe, will define a new golden age of Product Management. And we want you to be involved!
But First, a Bit of Background:
Unless you’ve been living under a digital rock, you will probably have heard about the Agile Manifesto.
It was a watershed moment in the history of software development, and rallied an entire industry to define a new, better way of building software. The Agile Manifesto’s impact is now felt well beyond the boundaries of the software industry, and its founders are rightly considered legends in their own time.
In the 20 or so years since the Agile Manifesto transformed Tech, the word has changed, dramatically.
Not only do Product Managers have more influence and importance than ever before, they also have to contend with a whole set of new challenges — pandemics, climate change, and the urgent need for more diversity and inclusion.
New territory requires a new map, which brings us to the Product Manifesto!
Introducing the Product Manifesto
Under the leadership of Mayank Yadav (PM at Facebook), a growing team of Product Leaders have now begun an effort to author a Product Manifesto for our time. The idea is to discover, distill and define an actionable blueprint for all Product Managers:
“Product Managers at all stages of their careers need an actionable blueprint that will inspire them to become better at their jobs and ultimately help them make better products.”– Mayank Yadav, PM at Facebook
Since our mission at Product School is to advance the discipline of Product Management to help PMs build better products that make a positive impact in the world, we are excited to get behind this movement and help facilitate it with our network and community.
Things are just starting to move, and the Working Group needs your input to help write a manifesto that will last through the years and serve as a useful blueprint for Product Managers at all stages of their careers, at companies of all sizes.
Here’s How You Can Get Involved
Right now, the Product Manifesto Working Group is at the information gathering stage. They need as much input as possible from Product People to create a manifesto that will stand the test of time and become a useful asset for all PMs.
This is where you come in!
If you have ideas and opinions about the values that matter for Product Managers, then now is the time to have your say. The Product Manifesto kick-off survey is live now – all that it’s missing is your voice:
