Edward Kim serves as Co-founder and Head of Technology at Gusto, the payroll and benefits platform used by hundreds of thousands of small and midsize businesses. Tasked with proving out what an AI-native build process looks like inside an established company, he leads a small technology team that builds and ships products using AI coding tools as a core part of the workflow rather than an add-on. That scope covers everything from early prototyping through production release, with the team working directly in code instead of through traditional specs or design handoffs. His work is helping shape how Gusto approaches product development as AI reshapes what a small team can build and ship on its own.

At Gusto, Edward drives the build of Gusto Cofounder, an AI-native product he prototyped from an airport lounge at London Heathrow using Claude Code after missing a connecting flight. Ten weeks later, a five-person team had shipped the real product with no PRDs, no Figma files, and no meetings, just pull requests and a permanent Zoom room. Edward specializes in stripping product development down to its fastest possible form, and in showing teams how much of the traditional process can be replaced once building itself gets this fast.
